Dublin Pub Crawl Guide

Welcome to Dublin, the City of Saints and Pubs! Dublin is known for its rich culture and nightlife, with a nearly endless supply of pubs, bars and nightclubs to explore. Whether you’re looking for a chilled out pub session, a wild night out, or something in between, there’s something to suit every taste when it comes to enjoying a night out in Ireland’s capital city.

For those visiting the city for the first time, a pub crawl could be the perfect way to explore the city’s bar scene. So grab your friends, find your map and use this guide to plan your own unbeatable Dublin pub crawl.

Larry Murphy’s Bar

Kicking off our pub crawl is Larry Murphy’s Bar. Located just off O’Connell Street, this traditional Irish bar is a favourite of both locals and tourists alike. You can expect good conversation, a lively atmosphere and plenty of pints of Guinness to be served. There’s a range of beers and spirits available on the bar, and entertainment throughout the week including popular music nights on Fridays and Saturdays. The bar is spacious and comfortable, with an outdoor seating area so you can enjoy some fresh air and watch Dublin bustle by.

I’ve been to Larry Murphy’s Bar a couple of times, and I can say that I’ve always had a good experience. It’s a great spot to get the night started and get into the spirit of a night out in Dublin.

The Temple Bar

Next stop on the pub crawl is arguably the most iconic pub in Ireland – The Temple Bar. Located in the heart of Dublin’s Temple Bar area, this pub has been serving pints since 1840! It’s been voted one of the best pubs in the world multiple times and is renowned for its lively atmosphere and traditional Irish music. Entertainment is on offer every night of the week; you’ll find traditional music sessions in the main bar every night, while upstairs there’s a music venue with bigger acts playing throughout the week. The beer garden out back is a great spot to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

I have visited The Temple Bar multiple times and each time it’s been an amazing experience. While it can be quite expensive compared to other pubs around the city, it’s well worth checking out for an authentic Irish experience.

The Cobblestone

We now head away from the hustle and bustle of central Dublin to enjoy a pint in one of the city’s hidden gems. The Cobblestone has been operating since 1982 and serves as a centre for traditional Irish roots music (known locally as “trad”) seven nights a week. It also hosts regular trad jams where musicians are invited to come together for an impromptu session. Here, you can sit back, relax and enjoy some of Dublin’s best musicians in action. Alongside its musical offerings, The Cobblestone also serves great Guinness and craft beers that you can enjoy with a tasty snack from the menu.

I had the pleasure of visiting The Cobblestone recently and I must say that it was an unforgettable experience! If you’re looking for some traditional Irish music, this is definitely worth checking out during your visit to Dublin.

The Cellar

The Cellar is one of the newest additions to Dublin’s nightlife scene and is quickly becoming one of the city’s most popular spots. Located in Dublin’s Smithfield area, The Cellar offers something truly unique: a bar and nightclub combined into one underground location! The bar area has a huge range of craft beers and spirits, while downstairs there’s an impressive nightclub with multiple bars and live DJs playing House and Electronic music throughout the night.

I’ve visited The Cellar multiple times since it opened and it gets more popular every time I’m there. While it’s definitely not for everyone (it can be quite rowdy!), if you’re looking for a wild night out then The Cellar is definitely worth checking out.

The Banks

Kicking off our last stop on our pub crawl is The Banks. As the name suggests this is a traditional bank-style bar located just south of the river Liffey in Portobello area of Dublin 2. Expect vintage wooden decorations, exposed brick walls, plenty of craft beers on tap, and an abundance of delicious drinks such as Americano, Dark & Stormy and Whisky Ginger Ale at low prices! There are also delicious snacks available too, with “Bank Burgers’ being particularly popular amongst punters.

I went to The Banks on Monday evening and had an absolutely amazing night! It was relatively quiet but still had a great atmosphere, which was heightened by the tasty drinks being served by the friendly bartenders. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area.

The Banks

So that brings us to the end of our ultimate Dublin Pub Crawl guide! With each pub offering something different from the next, all that remains for you to do is grab your friends, grab your map and embark on your own personal exploration of Dublin’s iconic bar scene!
