What Is Jaipur?

Jaipur is the capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan and is one of the largest cities in India. It also makes up part of the Golden Triangle, a popular tourist circuit connecting Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur.

The History of Jaipur

The history of Jaipur dates back to 1495, when the Hindu prince Raja Man Singh I of Amer first moved to the city. He ordered the construction of palatial residences, temples, and public gardens which, in turn, laid the foundations for Jaipur’s reputation as one of India’s most beautiful cities. In 1727, Jai Singh II was coronated and ordered for the city’s layout to be redesigned on a grand scale. He built many of Jaipur’s iconic landmark in His reign such as Hawa Mahal and City Palace. Due to its red sandstone walls and terracotta-colored buildings, Jaipur also earned the nickname “Pink City” in 1876 when Prince Albert and his wife visited during colonial rule.
