If you’re based in Delhi, then it’s now possible to make the most of India’s renowned Golden Triangle with an incredible swift four day tiger safari to Ranthambore, located in the famous Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan.

India’s Golden Triangle is renowned for its cultural sites, Hindu temples and tombs of former Mughal emperors. It takes in Delhi, Jaipur and Agra and its locations form a virtual triangle on a map. The circuit can easily be completed with a car journey in four or five days if you want to include a visit to Ranthambore National Park – India’s largest predator sanctuary.

It’s the ideal way to experience India if you’re pressed for time: you can fit a lot of culture, history, and wildlife into just four days. In this guide, I’ll provide all the information you need to plan your perfect Golden Triangle and Ranthambore tour.

A Must-Visit Trip During Your Stay in Delhi

If you’re staying in Delhi and can only spare four days for a short Indian tour trip, the Golden Triangle loop is your best option. It’s easy to customize your own schedule and plan the route to suit your needs so that you make the most of this round-trip from Delhi.

You’ll be able to visit various world-famous locations for varied experiences that capture the essence of India, such as experiencing the hustle and bustle of busy Delhi and discovering the rich culture and history of Rajasthan and Agra. You’ll even have time to visit some of wildlife’s most incredible sites, including Ranthambore National Park – home to the majestic Bengal Tiger.

The following itinerary is an ideal example of what you can fit into your stay in Delhi but can be easily tweaked to match your own needs.

Day 1: Arrival in Delhi

Start your Golden Triangle experience by flying into Delhi – India’s capital and one of the most vibrant cities in the world. You’ll quickly feel overwhelmed by the lively energy that is characteristic of this mega-city. Delhi is comprised of “Old’ and “New’, so there is something here for all ages and all tastes.

It’s best to explore Old Delhi first, as it will usually take up the majority of the day. Old Delhi is the capital city’s ancient Mughal heart, where centuries-old bazaars and winding streets filled with food vendors will draw you in. Don’t forget to visit the incredible Red Fort – one of Delhi’s epitomes—before leaving to experience the rest of India’s Golden Triangle.

Day 2: Drive from Delhi to Jaipur

Today you’ll have around a six hour drive from Delhi to Jaipur, located in the state of Rajasthan. This stunning city is often known as the “Pink City’ due to its colorful buildings – so don’t forget to take photographs! Upon arrival, take some time to explore Jaipur’s main sites – including the royal Amber Fort and Palace of the Winds (Hawa Mahal). As sunset sets in, head over to Chokhi or Anokhi Dhani for a traditional Rajasthani meal served with locally brewed beer and folk music – now you can really understand why locals are so proud of their culture!

Day 3: Drive from Jaipur to Agra

It’s now time to drive another 5 hours or so from Jaipur towards Agra – home to one of humankind’s most iconic monuments: the Taj Mahal. Agra is situated on the banks of sacred Yamuna River and its layout dates back centuries due to the British-Raj control it was subjected to in the 17th Century. During your time here, don’t forget to take a stroll around its cobbled roads lined with British-style homes and forts that reveal much about Agra’s past as an affluent 16th century capital under Mughal rule. As evening falls, make your way back to Delhi for your flight tomorrow.

Day 4: Morning Flight from Agra to Ranthambore National Park

Say farewell to Agra this morning and get ready for an early morning flight from Agra to Ranthambore National Park where you will spend your morning on safari – this is when you might spot some tigers on their morning hunts! This wildlife sanctuary is one of India’s greatest wildlife locations – home to tigers, leopards, sloth bears, wild boar, monkeys, reptiles and more than 300 species of birds.

You’ll easily cover most major sites of the park once you head out onto a safari jeep, accompanied by an experienced guide who can direct you towards any wild animals that may be lurking inside – it’s certainly watched where big cats may be nearby!

Take this opportunity also to enjoy a stroll inside some of Ranthambore National Park’s surrounding lakeside villages where impoverished farmers who are dependent on crops for income live out their daily lives, barely affected by any external influence – it’s an incredible experience.
