Exploring the Irish Channel on a New Orleans Pub Crawl Tour

When planning a trip to the vibrant city of New Orleans, it’s essential to take some time to explore its history. It’s a city with a strong cultural heritage and a mix of influences from many parts of the world. One of the areas where its heritage is most visible is the Irish Channel – a neighbourhood just off Magazine Street with a history that spans centuries.

To truly understand what makes this neighbourhood so special, nothing beats taking a tour – but there’s more to it than just history. As part of the experience, you’ll also get a unique local perspective on food, drinking and culture. Yes, we’re talking about a pub crawl! With the New Orleans Irish Channel History Tour Pub Crawl, you’ll explore some of the area’s best pubs, sample craft beer and drinks, and experience the Irish Channel like never before.

What You Need to Know About Pub Crawling in New Orleans

Pub crawls are a great way to explore any city – and New Orleans is no exception. This city is home to some of the South’s best beer and drink destinations, and you can sample plenty on this tour. The pub crawl includes stops at three pubs – including dives and taprooms. Bus transportation is provided in between each stop, making it easy to get around and explore the area.

At each stop, a local guide will lead you through the history of the pub, while also introducing you to special brews and drinks. You’ll also get to sample craft beer from NOLA’s craft breweries, In addition, depending on what day of the week you choose, you may end up at a live jazz show or other special local events.

One of the things that make New Orleans so special is its history – and on this tour, you’ll get to experience some of it firsthand. The tour takes you through important landmarks in the area, such as the Jackson Barracks, which was built in 1834 by Andrew Jackson. You’ll also visit St. Alphonsus Church, the oldest Catholic church in New Orleans.

But it’s not just historical landmarks that make this neighbourhood unique. You’ll also get to wander through two funky residential blocks filled with brightly coloured houses, take in some local street art and visit some hot spots in the area known only to locals (and of course, our tour guides!).

A Closer Look at the Pubs on the Crawl

When it comes to pubs, New Orleans has plenty to choose from – and on this tour, you’ll get to sample three of them. Here’s a closer look at some of the pubs you’ll visit:

Elliot’s

If you love craft beers and tacos, then you’ll love Elliot’s. This casual dive bar is beloved by locals for its selection of domestic and craft beers – and its tacos are to die for! When we visited, we had a flight of beers that included an IPA from NOLA Brewing Company, a pale ale from Abita Brewing Company and an Irish red from Port Orleans Brewing Company.

The Bulldog

If you like craft beer, then be sure to check out The Bulldog. This hip pub offers more than 30 beers on tap and over 100 bottled beers from all over the world – plus a wide selection of whiskeys and wines to choose from. The atmosphere here is casual and laid back – making it a great spot to hang out with friends and enjoy some drinks.

Cooter Brown’s Saloon

Cooter Brown’s Saloon is one of the go-to spots in the Irish Channel neighbourhood – and for good reason. This dive bar has been around since 1948, making it one of the oldest bars in the city. It’s also known for its selection of beers (especially local brews) and oysters – all served up in a relaxed atmosphere.
