Table Mountain

The foremost attraction when visiting Cape Town and one that should already be on everyone’s bucket list- is Table Mountain. You can reach the summit by either taking a gondola ride or by taking a scenic hike up one of the many paths on the mountain.

Robben Island

Travelling further out from the city centre, you will find Robben Island, a place once used for political prisoners by the historical apartheid regime. This startingly powerful place is now one of South Africa’s greatest UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The site gained its popularity as this was where former ANC president, Nelson Mandela, had spent 18 years of his life whilst incarcerated at the prison on Robben Island, making it a significant spot in South Africa’s history. Robben Island is now home to more than 250 different species of birds and is a popular spot for birdwatching. It is also still home to some of the same buildings and structures used during its time as a prison. Visitors can take a ferry ride to the island, as well as explore inside the prison and meet with former political prisoners.

Cape Point Nature Reserve
