When planning a trip to Belfast, Northern Ireland one question that often cross people’s mind is, is Belfast safe? Public transport in Belfast is relatively safe and has improved a lot recently. A Metro line was introduced recently which is a quick and easy way to get around Belfast considering its size. The main modes of transport in Belfast include the Metro, buses and taxi’s all of which can be found easily and although there are certain areas that may not be recommended for visiting at night these transportation services will continue running until late. It is often advised for women to take a taxi rather than public transport when travelling alone at night since it will offer more comfort and less crowds.

Overall Belfast offers a safe experience to its visitors but there are several things that can help keep you safe while travelling here such as;

  • Being aware of your surroundings: As previously mentioned tourist should generally avoid certain areas depending on their own personal choice, this includes at night when some areas may be considered less safe.
  • Know your limit: Pub crawls are an excellent way to experience local culture but going too far with drinking can often result in difficult situations for anyone so make sure you know your limits.
  • Carry minmal items: Pickpocketing is present in every city so try not leave anything valuable visible in your bag or clothing.
  • Trust your instincts: If you feel something is off it most likely is regardless how small it may seem.
