Savannah: Haunted Pubs and Taverns Walking Tour – A One-of-a-Kind Adventure

Are you an adventurer at heart and looking for something a little unusual? On a recent trip to Savannah, Georgia, I decided to try something I would never have had a chance to experience back home – a haunted pubs and taverns walking tour. It was absolutely extraordinary!

If you’re intrigued by the idea of walking among ghosts and soaking in a bit of history, then the Savannah Haunted Pubs and Taverns Walking Tour is just what you’re looking for. As part of the two-hour, two-mile tour, you’ll explore nine of the city’s most haunted pubs and taverns. Each location has a rich past and plenty of ghostly tales to tell.

The Expert Guide

Our tour guide was a history professor at Savannah State University with an in-depth knowledge of the city’s haunted spots. He was well versed in both the history and paranormal happenings at each location. Every site was deeply intriguing, with tales of ghosts, hauntings, and psychic manifestations.

Our first stop was Napoleon’s Italia Cafe, a creole restaurant. It has nearly 200 years of history and is purported to be one of the most haunted establishments in the city. It is said to be a hotbed for paranormal activity and we were definitely on the look out for any signs of ghosts or unexplained activity. As we walked to our next stop, our guide shared bits of information interspersed with plenty of ghostly tales from Savannah’s past.

The Pubs & Taverns

Along the tour, we stopped at these nine pubs & taverns:

  • Napolean’s Italia Cafe
  • Jinx’s Bar & Grill
  • O’Connell’s Irish Pub
  • Crystal Beer Parlor
  • Molly Macphersons Irish Pub & Grill
  • Savannah Taphouse Bar
  • Eddie’s Attic Music Club
  • Pinkie Masters Bar & Grill
  • Six Pence Pub

At each location, the stories were captivating and some even included a surprise or two. For example, at O’Connell’s Irish Pub, we encountered a ghost who was known to be fond of a little impish behavior. According to our guide, this ghost has been seen playing pranks on bartenders and patrons throughout the years. At Crystal Beer Parlor, during our interesting visit to the basement bar that stands in ruins today, our guide told capture ghost stories about a young girl who shows up occasionally as if she is searching for something or someone.

Is It Really Haunted?

As with any place that proclaims itself to be haunted, there will always be skeptics. I can honestly say that I was more than a little skeptical going in. On top of that, I couldn’t help but wonder how historically accurate some of the tales might have been.
However, in researching these places further after my tour, I found myself amazed at how many stories have proven true – as well as the abundance of eye-witness reports that continue today including moving objects, whispering voices, unexplainable cold spots and other occurrences. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, the tour alone is a unique opportunity for exploring the colorful history of Savannah and experiencing it with an expert guide.
