The Best Nightlife Spots in Munich

Munich is one of the most spectacular cities in the world and its nightlife makes it even more entertaining. From authentic German pubs and clubs to international hot spots, Munich has something for everyone and is sure to keep you busy all night long. Here we’ve put together a guide to the best nightlife spots for a great night out in Munich.

Alter Simpl

For those looking for a traditional German beer hall experience fuelled by great music and affordable drinks, then Alter Simpl is the go-to spot. Opened in 1942, this beloved Munich institution is located in the heart of the city near Marienplatz. It has been recently renovated and offers an impressive everchanging selection of craft beers, along with a food menu offering an array of traditional Bavarian specialities. The friendly atmosphere inside the pub creates a great setting for an enjoyable evening out. Plus, the live music will transport you to a party back in time. My personal opinion is that Alter Simpl is a must-see for anyone visiting Munich and I will definitely be going back soon.

Glockenbach Bar

If laidback sophistication is more your vibe, then a visit to the Glockenbach Bar should be top of the list. Located close to Odeonsplatz, this stylish watering hole not only offers creative cocktails, but also serves Japanese cuisine from the attached restaurant. It has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, with inviting indoor seating merging into an outdoor terrace with views over the historic main square. In addition, it features regular themed evenings and DJ entertainment – perfect for an impromptu night out in Munich. It has a great selection of drinks and I loved the vibe of this place. Highly recommended.

Pacha Club

For those really looking to cut loose and hit the dancefloor all night long, then Pacha Club is where you want to be! When it first opened its doors in 2002, Pacha was the first club in Munich to bring together three distinct elements – music, entertainment, and cuisine. It now hosts some of Munich’s biggest events, featuring world-famous DJs playing house and techno music. Come Saturday night, those looking to have a big night out flock to Pacha Club to let their hair down and dance until dawn. I wasn’t so keen on Pacha Club as I’m not that into clubbing – but I had a great time people watching!

Harry Klein Club

If underground music and piercing lights are what you seek then look no further than Harry Klein Club. This club is sure to make an indelible impression on you! With so much detail put into every element, from the cocoon-like interior to the impressive sound system, you won’t want to leave once you enter. Taking inspiration from their namesake – artist Harry Klein – the club hosts some of Munich’s biggest parties with both visiting and resident DJs spinning a range of music from tech house to minimal techno. If you are looking for an intense night out, then Harry Klein is certain to deliver. Having visited Harry Klein myself I can thoroughly recommend as it really does provide an immersive experience.

The Charles Hotel

For those looking for something more sophisticated then The Charles Hotel roof terrace bar should be on your list. Located on Leopoldstrasse already famed in Munich for its clubs and bars, Charles is at the peak of luxury nightlife experience. Not only has it stunning views of the city skyline but also features a wide selection of fine wines and champagnes to complement them. Inside, cool interiors and leather seating adds a touch of class that is perfect for a more upmarket evening out. As I am not usually a fan of upmarket bars I was pleasantly surprised by Charles as it was stylish yet comfortable – highly recommend!

Lord’s Bar & Cigar Lounge

For those seeking something different the Lord’s Bar & Cigar Lounge makes for an interesting evening. Relaxing music from lounge singers creates a pleasant atmosphere, which is only heightened by a wide selection of cigars from around the world available to puff away on here. Plus there’s classic cocktails and finger food too! This exclusive bar/cigar lounge hybrid is based in the heart of Munich and also offers live jazz music throughout the week – ideal for a slower paced evening out. As someone who loves their cigars this was my favorite place in town – wonderful atmosphere.
