Valencia Breakfast Guide

Valencia is the third largest city in Spain, so it’s sure to have plenty of places to get a delicious breakfast. Whether you’re visiting for a weekend or in town for a longer stay, a good breakfast can make your day. With Valencia’s Mediterranean climate and coastal location, breakfasts range from traditional Spanish staples like churros and café con leche to more unique dishes like the famous rice-based Calabacines Rellenos.

No matter what your tastes or budget may be, there’s something to satisfy everyone in Valencia. In this guide, we’ll take a look at some of the best breakfast spots in the city.

1. La Tapería

Located in the heart of Valencia, La Tapería is one of the city’s most popular breakfast spots. This small but popular eatery is open all day, making it a great option no matter when you stop by. There’s a wide selection of traditional Spanish breakfast dishes, from churros, tostas and tortillas to tostadas and pan con tomato, all made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. But that’s not all—La Tapería also offers a number of regional specialties, like Valencia’s famous calabacines rellenos, a delicious stuffed zucchini dish. And with its lively atmosphere and welcoming staff, La Tapería is an ideal spot for a memorable meal.

My opinion: La Tapería is one of my favorite spots for breakfast in Valencia. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and their selection of Spanish classics—including the delicious calabacines rellenos—are perfectly executed. Highly recommended!

2. Aire de Luz Café & Restaurante

If you’re looking for a more unique breakfast experience in Valencia, look no further than Aire de Luz Café & Restaurante. Located in the trendy Ruzafa neighborhood, this spot offers a refreshing take on traditional Spanish breakfast dishes. From their contemporary versions of classics like tortilla de patatas and pan con tomate, to more unusual combinations like grilled vegetables with pecorino cheese and roasted pumpkin on toast, Aire de Luz Cafe isn’t afraid to bring something new to the plate. And the airy and modern interior makes it the perfect spot for an Instagrammable breakfast.

My opinion: The Aire de Luz Café & Restaurante is a great option if you’re looking for something different from your typical Spanish breakfast fare. The flavors are light and fresh, and the restaurant itself is bright and inviting. Definitely worth a visit

3. Bar Mercado de Colón

For a tasty and unique breakfast experience in the center of Valencia, check out Bar Mercado de Colón. This bar and restaurant specializes in tapas and pinchos (also known as pintxos), small plates often served as an appetizer before a meal. Not only that, they serve their tapas in the form of “raciones,” which are larger portions perfect for sharing with a few friends or family members at breakfast. From traditional dishes like croqueta de jamón to more modern creations like gazpacho gelée with king prawns, there’s something to please everyone at Bar Mercado de Colón, making it one of the tastiest breakfast spots in Valencia.

My opinion: Bar Mercado de Colón is an excellent spot for breakfast if you want to try something a bit different. And their raciones are perfect for sharing with a group—which makes it a great place for an casual group breakfast.

4. Café Orquídea

If you’re looking for an elegant yet laid back spot for breakfast or brunch in Valencia, look no further than Café Orquídea. Located in the Ciutat Vella district, this charming cafe and restaurant serves up a variety of traditional Spanish dishes as well as more modern and international fare such as eggs Benedict and French toast. Whether you’re looking for something light like toast with jamón serrano or something heartier like huevos rotos (scrambled eggs with Jamón Ibérico), Café Orquídea has something for everyone. The cafe also has a delightful outdoor patio where you can enjoy your meal al fresco.

My opinion: Café Orquídea is a great spot for a relaxed brunch or breakfast. The menu is filled with both traditional and modern fare, plus the outdoor patio is perfect for enjoying a meal in the sunshine.

5. El Corral del Tío Pepe

The last spot on our list is El Corral del Tío Pepe, a family-run restaurant in Benimaclet specializing in traditional recipes cooked over an open flame. From their famous gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp) to their paella negra (black paella), each traditional dish here is cooked with love and care over an open flame, giving them a unique smoky flavor that can’t be replicated elsewhere. Don’t forget to try their Migas con Chorizo (sausage crumbs), one of the restaurant’s signature dishes!

My opinion: El Corral del Tío Pepe is one of my favorite spots for breakfast in Valencia—the smoky flavors from their traditional dishes cooked over open flames are unforgettable! A must-visit.
