What Is the Berlin WelcomeCard & What Discounts & Transport Zones Does it Cover?

Want to make the most out of your visit to Berlin, Germany? The Berlin WelcomeCard might be just the ticket for you! It’s a discounted Berlin public transport pass plus additional discounts on tourist attractions, eating out and more – basically an all-in-one city pass.

Here, we’ll answer the questions you’re likely to have about the Berlin WelcomeCard, such as what transport zones it covers, what discounts it offers and how much it costs.

What Is the Berlin WelcomeCard?

The Berlin WelcomeCard is a city pass designed to help you make savings on sightseeing and make exploring Berlin easier. It’s basically a combination of discounted public transport pass and an attraction discount card.

The public transport element enables you to travel within the whole of Greater Berlin and most of Brandenburg for up to three consecutive days. It includes unlimited travel by bus (including night buses), train (S-Bahn, U-Bahn, regional trains), trams and ferries within Berlin zones ABC.

In addition, you can save up to 50% on over 200 attractions, including the world-famous sights of Berlin, such as the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Wall and Museum Island. The card also entitles you to discounts of up to 30% on theatre and museum tickets, guided tours and trips on the River Spree. You can also find dining discounts at over 160 participating restaurants in Berlin.

The Berlin WelcomeCard team has gone one step further and added in travel insurance too, meaning you’re covered up to €30,000 should something go wrong on your trip – though hopefully you won’t need it!

How Much Does the Berlin WelcomeCard Cost?

The price of the Berlin WelcomeCard will depend on which kind of ticket you choose – Single or Group – and how many consecutive days you’d like it to cover.

For a single ticket for up to three days in Berlin zones ABC, prices start from €21.90 for adults and €14.50 for children and students. Prices vary according to the age of the traveller so it’s best to check on their website which applies to you.

For a group ticket valid for up to five people travelling on the same ticket, prices start from €43.80 per group per three days. Again, there are various options so it’s worth consulting the website for more information.

To give you an idea of how much money you could save with just your public transport transport element alone, you’d spend around €20.50 on an ordinary three-day ticket – or €9 if you’re below the age of 6 or above 65 – while the WelcomeCard would cost currently either €21.90 or €14.50, depending on your age category. So if you wanted to go to just one other place where you could use your WelcomeCard’s attraction discounts – such as Museum Island – you’d be able to save more than what you paid for the card itself.

Where Does the Berlin WelcomeCard Cover?

The Berlin WelcomeCard is valid in Greater Berlin and most of Brandenburg covering zones A-C – that includes all urban rail networks such as S-Bahn (city rail) and U-Bahn (underground rail), as well as regional express trains (RE, RB as well as S-Bahn) and even trams, buses and ferries – in other words, it covers all you would ever need to move around in this huge urban area of Germany!

Where Can I Buy a Berlin WelcomeCard?

You can buy a Berlin WelcomeCard online from their official website Berlin-WelcomeCard.de. There is also an app available for both Android and iOS phones where visitors can purchase an e-ticket and activate their pass straight away. You can also find our cards at ticket offices in selected stations across Berlin – just look for signs that have “Berlin WelcomeCard’ written on them.

How Do I Use My Berlin WelcomeCard?

Using your WelcomeCard is quick and easy! After purchasing your ticket (either online or at a ticket office), simply show it to a bus or train driver and they’ll let you through the ticket barrier without any additional payment required. Just make sure that your card is visibly presented if requested by an inspector during your journey.
