What to See and Do in London?

London is a city full of life and experiences, with a wide assortment of attractions, activities, and sights to keep the most inquisitive soul occupied. Whether you’re looking for something to do in the afternoon, something exciting and educational, or the ultimate cultural experience, you won’t be short of options when you’re in London.

There’s no denying that London is a great city for shopping, with its hectares of retail outlets in both traditional and modern marketplaces. The iconic Oxford Street, renowned for its designer fashion boutiques, and the renowned West End, with its legendary theaters, are both must-sees. Covent Garden is also worth a visit for its atmosphere and street-corner musicians. If you like antiques, then Bermondsey comes highly recommended.

London is home to many popular tourist attractions such as the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral and the Tower of London, all of which are must-sees for visitors. History buffs will enjoy seeing the old Roman walls that still guard the city center, while modern architecture aficionados should definitely visit The Shard.

Art and culture abound in London. Some of the city’s best art galleries include Tate Modern on the south bank of the Thames and The National Gallery on Trafalgar Square. Other museums worth visiting include the British Museum, The National Portrait Gallery and The Victoria & Albert Museum.

When it comes to nightlife, London has something for everyone. Trendy bars, classic pubs, wine bars, live music venues, casinos, jazz clubs and comedy clubs can all be found throughout the city. Popular London clubs include Fabric and XOYO in Shoreditch, Ministry of Sound in Southwark and Egg in Kings Cross.

Of course, no visit to London would be complete without taking a trip down the River Thames. Cruises and riverboat tours offer an excellent way to see some of London’s best sights from a different vantage point. During the summer months there are regular sightseeing cruises that take visitors along the Thames from Westminster to Greenwich passing along many of London’s famous landmarks such as Tower Bridge and The Tower of London.

Those wanting to experience something more unusual can take advantage of numerous underground adventures including archaelogical walking tours and overnight ghost hunts.1 Other activities with a twist include bike tours and Segway tours that can be taken both day and night.

London also has plenty to offer children – visit the London Zoo to see animals from around the world or take a tour of one of its numerous aquariums such as The Vortex Aquarium in Camden Town or The Sea Life Centre in Westminster. For indoor fun why not try The London Aquarium in County Hall or The Geko Dome at The O2 Arena? Another great option is Toy Story Adventure – a 3D online game based at Kidzania in Westfield Shopping Centre.

At the end of the day, if you’re looking for something special to do in London there is no shortage of activities available – whether it’s exploring the city or going on an adventure under the streets. With its mix of old and new, you never quite know what to expect when you’re visiting this remarkable city … apart from an unforgettable experience that you won’t forget in a hurry!
